Day 15 | Mark 7.31-37, John 2:1-12, Luke 19:1-10

Mark 7:31-37 New American Bible (Revised Edition) (NABRE)

The Healing of a Deaf Man. 31 Again he left the district of Tyre and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, into the district of the Decapolis. 32 And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 He took him off by himself away from the crowd. He put his finger into the man’s ears and, spitting, touched his tongue; 34 then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” (that is, “Be opened!”) 35 And [immediately] the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly. 36 [a]He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it. 37 They were exceedingly astonished and they said, “He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and [the] mute speak.”

Chapter 2

The Wedding at Cana. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” [And] Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.
12 After this, he and his mother, [his] brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days.

Chapter 19

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector. He came to Jericho and intended to pass through the town. Now a man there named Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man, was seeking to see who Jesus was; but he could not see him because of the crowd, for he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree in order to see Jesus, who was about to pass that way. When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.” And he came down quickly and received him with joy. When they all saw this, they began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendant of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.”

Gaze lovingly upon our Lord
What is Jesus's agenda as he performs these miracles?
What is going on inside of Jesus?
What is Jesus purpose?

Reflecting upon these questions will insight on how to be disciples

Reflections

• Jesus cares for mind, body, and soul of each individual - He changes the context for healing the deaf person, his miracle at the wedding is essential invisible to everyone - not drawing attention from the newly married;
• Communicate to the heart of each person - He sees the somewhat hidden desires of Zacchaeus and creates a context for these desires to surface.
• Adapt your communication - message and form to how people are ready to hear
• Jesus loves people where they are at ; who they are today
• Meet the person where they are in a holistic way- understand and loves the person holistically in context.
• Jesus elevates the person that he is touching without drawing attention.
• Jesus’s purpose is to invite people into relationship- with him, each other, and God
• Make friends the way that Jesus makes friends.
• Any friend of Jesus is a friend of mine

Not just miracles— but love and deep compassion for the tender heart of people.
That sounds like a place that even non miracle workers can begin.

Day 14 | Discipleship: Matthew 5:13-16

What does it mean to be salt of the earth and light of the world? 13  “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.  14  You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.  15  Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.  16  Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
